West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus is once again set to be one of the major talking points of the transfer window.

Kudus has shone since arriving at West Ham from Ajax for €43 million in 2023, and this form has attracted the interest of some of the richest clubs in the game.

Arsenal were notably interested in the Ghana international as potential cover for Bukayo Saka during January but were put off by a €120 million asking price. Liverpool also hold a keen interest in the 24-year-old. Clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also linked with the star.

Now it has been revealed by David Ornstein that Kudus has three tiers of release clauses, designed to maximise West Ham’s profits but also insure the London side against losing their prized asset to a rival club at a cheap price.

What is Mohammed Kudus’ release clause?

Kudus has three different release clauses depending on the location of the buying team.

Clubs from continental Europe will be able to sign Kudus for €95 million (£80m), Ornstein says. Links here are limited for the time being, though.

Premier League clubs will have to fork out a little more to sign the winger, with a price tag of €106.5m here, while Saudi Pro League teams will have to stump up a Premier League record €142m if they are to sign Kudus via his release fee.

Crucially, Kudus’ release clauses are only open in the first 10 days of July, meaning that the battle to sign him could be rather fraught at this point of the season.

West Ham have put this condition in place to ensure they have ample time to find a replacement, though it does not ruled out a sale beyond that date should they agree.

Kudus is under contract until 2028, with the option of another year, so the Hammers are under no obligations to sell, with the Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of the player sitting at €63.8m – a career-high figure.
