Monaco have made a new proposal to West Ham for midfielder Edson Alvarez after their initial loan request was rejected for the Mexico international.
Alvarez, 27, joined the Hammers from Ajax for £35million in 2023 having impressed over four years in the Netherlands.
He had previously been linked with Chelsea, with the midfielder revealing last year that he was just ‘an hour away’ from joining the club in the summer of 2022.
Alvarez impressed in his debut season in east London, playing 42 times as West Ham reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and secured a 14th place finish.
However, things have been more difficult this time around, with the Mexico star having been sent off twice, amid the club’s wider struggles under Julen Lopetegui.
A disappointing first half of the 2024-25 campaign ultimately resulted in the Spaniard being sacked last week given the Hammers are languishing in mid table despite a heavy summer spend.
Ligue 1 outfit Monaco have submitted a second offer for West Ham star Edson Alvarez
The Principality side saw an initial loan offer for the Mexican midfielder, 27, turned down
The 27-year-old started Graham Potter’s first West Ham game at Aston Villa on Friday night
Nevertheless, Alvarez remains a key player at the club and West Ham rejected an initial loan approach from Monaco for the 83-time Mexico international.
The Principality club maintain an interest in the 27-year-old and have returned with a new proposal.
It remains to be seen whether West Ham will be willing to entertain a second offer after Alvarez started Graham Potter’s first game in charge against Aston Villa on Friday.
Monaco currently sit third in Ligue 1, while they are 16th in the Champions League League stage and well-placed to qualify for the knockout rounds.
If he was to make the move to the club, he would link up with former Premier League stars Thilo Kehrer, Folarin Balogun, Denis Zakaria, Takumi Minamino and Mohammed Salisu.
