Former Inter President Massimo Moratti blasted Simone Inzaghi for the way he joined Al-Hilal. ‘It was like a bad impression of Jose Mourinho, I would’ve chosen Antonio Conte to replace him.’

The magnate’s family was associated with the Nerazzurri for decades and he was at the helm when they reached their peak, winning the Treble in 2010.

That saw them lift the Champions League, Serie A title and the Coppa Italia in the same season under Mourinho, who then walked away for Real Madrid.

When Inzaghi decided to leave Inter after they missed out on the Scudetto and lost the Champions League Final 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain, Moratti was unimpressed.

“I think Inzaghi left in a bad way, I didn’t like what happened at all,” Moratti told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“He was trying to imitate Mourinho, but it was a bad impression, because Mou had won the Treble before leaving.”

Inzaghi also didn’t quit for Real Madrid, but for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, so it could hardly be considered a step up in his ambitions.

Cristian Chivu was brought in after only a short spell as coach of Parma, though Moratti would’ve made a different choice.

“I would’ve handed Inter to Antonio Conte. Having said that, choosing Chivu was intelligent and courageous, because he’s very good and has a grip on the situation.”
