Reports in Italy claim that another defeat against Genoa after the international break would cost Thiago Motta his job, but the ex-Italy midfielder hasn’t been sacked already for several reasons, including financial.

Juventus coach Thiago Motta is under fire after suffering back-to-back defeats against Atalanta and Fiorentina, conceding seven goals and scoring none.

The former midfielder refused to resign after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Fiorentina, and Cristiano Giuntoli confirmed his trust in the coach.

Nevertheless, Juventus expert Romeo Agresti argues that Motta has limited time to save his job.

Ilbianconero.com, Corriere dello Sport and Calciomercato.com add that a third consecutive defeat against Genoa in the next round would cost Motta his job.

Juventus will host the Grifone at the Allianz Stadium on March 29, after the international break.

However, many Juventus fans wonder why Motta wasn’t sacked after Sunday’s loss to Fiorentina.

Agresti believes that sacking Motta with nine games remaining would confirm the project’s failure, but the financial aspect also has an impact. Previous reports claimed Juventus would need to pay circa €20m to sack their coach this season. 

Gazzetta adds that the lack of top-tier replacements is another matter that needs to be considered, with only Igor Tudor and Roberto Mancini seen as credible candidates already available to replace Motta.

However, neither coach would accept a short-term contract in Turin.

At the same time, Juventus remain in the race for a top-four placement, being just one point below Bologna. Lastly, the club believes it would be unfair to solely blame the coach, as players also need to take responsibility for this season’s disappointing results.
