Mourinho opens up on Amorim and Ratcliffe STRUGGLES at Man Utd

Jose Mourinho has opened up about Manchester United’s recent fortunes, admitting he is not enjoying the struggles of Ruben Amorim while also describing Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a ‘good person and great businessman’.

Fenerbahce manager Mourinho was speaking after being accused of racism by rivals Galatasaray, with the Portuguese coach vehemently defending his recent comments.

However, the 62-year-old also offered his support to Amorim, with whom he shares a ‘good relationship’ with, having seen the United boss visit the training ground while Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford between 2016 and 2018.

Amorim had also previously revealed that Mourinho had sent him a message wishing him luck and giving him advice upon his appointment in November.

Amorim has endured a difficult start to life in England, having lost eight of his first 16 Premier League matches with United and Mourinho was sympathetic to the struggles of his compatriot.

“He’s a good kid, always very respectful to me. We had a good relationship for a few years. I’m not enjoying [the situation],” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “He knows I wish him well.”

Mourinho on Ratcliffe and racism claims

Mourinho was also asked about the recent redundancies led by Ratcliffe at United which have seen more than 250 staff members lose their jobs.

“To be honest I don’t know much about what’s happening,” Mourinho said. “I know Sir Jim Ratcliffe. I’m not saying we are big friends but we have a good relationship.

“I know him well. He invited me to his house a couple of times. I see him as a good person and a great businessman. Of course, I feel for some of the people that I know [losing their jobs], but hopefully it goes in the right direction.”

Speaking about the racism accusations, Mourinho insisted that the support from his former players proved that Galatasaray’s claims ‘were not clever.’

“They were not clever in the way they attacked me, because they didn’t know my past,” he said. “They didn’t know my connections with Africa, with African people and African players and African charities.

“So instead of going against me, I think it boomeranged and went against them. Everyone knows who I am as a person. Everybody knows my bad qualities, but that is not one of my bad qualities. Exactly the opposite!

“The most important thing is I know who I am, and the attack accusing racism was a bad choice.”
