Milan defeated Bari 2-0 in Coppa Italia last night and new signing Luka Modric was greeted with a rapturous standing ovation when he came on as a second-half substitute for Samuele Ricci.

The Ballon d’Or winning midfielder joined the Rossoneri on a free transfer this summer after his Real Madrid contract expired and the Croatian has posted on Instagram to send a “heartfelt thanks” to Milan fans, describing San Siro as his “new home.”

The post reads: “My new home! Heartfelt thanks to all the Milan supporters for the wonderful hospitality and affection you showed me yesterday in San Siro. See you on Saturday!”

Modric an experience head amongst Milan’s signings for the future

The former Spurs player will turn 40 next month and his experienced profile is different to the other players that the Rossoneri have signed for new head coach Massimiliano Allegri this summer.

Whilst the likes of Samuele Ricci and Ardon Jashari are clear signals that new sporting director Igli Tare is attempting to future-proof the Milan squad, the experienced Croatian represents a different, yet equally as valuable, addition.
