Germany had to manage without two of their key players for Friday’s 2-0 win over Luxembourg, as Nico Schlotterbeck and captain Joshua Kimmich sat out with injuries.
Schlotterbeck has been nursing a foot injury sustained in Dortmund’s 1-1 draw with Hamburger SV last week, while Kimmich picked up an ankle injury in training on Wednesday.
After the win over Luxembourg, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann gave Schlotterbeck a better chance of returning against Slovakia on Monday than Kimmich.
“With Schlotti, I’m cautiously optimistic; with Joshua, cautiously skeptical,” Nagelsmann told reporters after the game.
“We’ll see, within reason, what’s possible.”
Kimmich himself said before kickoff on Friday that he “assumes” he will be fit for Monday’s game.
