Alessandro Buongiorno has missed Napoli’s last three Serie A matches, but the club remains hopeful of having him back for the final, decisive stretch of the season.

The Italy international remained 90 minutes on the bench during his side’s 1-1 draw at Bologna, before being ruled out of clashes against Empoli and Monza with an adductor injury.

Antonio Conte was then dealt another huge blow in defence, as Juan Jesus, who was replacing Buongiorno at centre-back, sustained a season-ending injury, forcing the coach to deploy Rafa Marin alongside Amir Rrhamani in their latest outing at Monza.

However, Sky Sport Italia reported that Buongiorno has increased the workload in his training session on Tuesday, and the Partenopei are confident he can be available for the match against his former side Torino at the Stadio Diego Maradona on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old has racked up 21 Serie A appearances this season, having also missed more than one month of action during the winter due to a lumbar vertebrae injury.
