Napoli are increasingly likely to complete the transfer for Lorenzo Lucca, claim Sky Sport Italia, as Liverpool’s demands for Darwin Nunez are too high.

The Partenopei knew they wanted a new centre-forward who could lessen the dependence on Romelu Lukaku next season.

Their first choice was Nunez, but despite being prepared to invest €43m for the 25-year-old, this was not enough to convince Liverpool to lower their €50m asking price.

Lucca a more affordable option for Napoli

Udinese centre-forward Lucca was locked down last week as an alternative in case the talks for Nunez did not progress rapidly, and that now seems to be the situation.

Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Napoli have decided to bite the bullet and abandoned Nunez in favour of Lucca.

He will cost considerably less at €30m and the 24-year-old is also hoping to break into the Italy squad.

It comes after deals were struck with PSV Eindhoven for Noa Lang and closer to Bologna wide man Dan Ndoye too.
