Neuhaus apologises and returns to first-team training

Florian Neuhaus has returned to first-team training with Borussia Mönchengladbach after apologising for the controversial video that led to his temporary demotion.

About a month ago, Borussia Mönchengladbach fined Florian Neuhaus and temporarily sent him to the U23 team after a video surfaced showing the midfielder criticizing club boss Roland Virkus while on vacation.

As of Monday, the 28-year-old has returned to first-team training following his apology for the incident.

“As I return to my team, I would like to take the opportunity to once again apologise to the club – and Roland Virkus in particular – as well as Borussia’s fans for my behaviour. We have had a personal and professional relationship for many years – one characterised by appreciation, respect and trust. I will do everything I can to rebuild this mutual trust. Borussia Mönchengladbach was and still is the club I love,” said Florian Neuhaus. 

“I’m happy that I can start training again with my team this week and would like to thank the coaches and players from our U23s for the warm welcome I was given there.”

Virkus expressed his desire to move on from the incident.

“Flo had already apologised internally four weeks ago, and we now acknowledge that he has done so publicly,” Virkus said.

“This is behind us now. We expect Flo to demonstrate his full quality in training and to contribute to helping us achieve our goals.”
