The France international, who joined Chelsea from Leicester City for €80.4 million in August 2022, has become a stalwart under Enzo Maresca this season after an injury-hit first two years at Stamford Bridge.

Fofana missed the entirety of last campaign through an ACL injury, while he only amassed 20 appearances during his debut season at Chelsea due to two separate knee injuries.

However, he is now back to full fitness and the Frenchman has started eight of Chelsea’s nine Premier League games so far this season – with his only omission coming against Liverpool, with Fofana ineligible to play due to suspension.

His partnership with Levi Colwill has helped Chelsea maintain a strong start to the season, and the Blues are currently fifth in the Premier League table, with 17 points from their opening nine games.

Following Chelsea’s win over Newcastle United on Sunday, Fofana was asked whether he’s joining Man Utd by a Red Devils supporter. However, the 23-year-old laughed off the suggestion and simply replied: “Never,” before grinning as he drove off.

Fofana was linked with a move to Old Trafford before joining Chelsea, but Man Utd are currently in turmoil and the Red Devils have officially sacked Erik ten Hag after a woeful start to the season.

Wesley Fofana could’ve left Chelsea this summer

While Fofana has shut down the chance of joining Man Utd, he recently revealed that he could have left Chelsea for his boyhood club Marseille after being approached by the French side this summer.

“I had a conversation that really touched me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t weigh it up,” Fofana told FreeFoot. “It was from Mehdi Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director.

“It touched me and I think everyone knows why. I thought about it but there you go, the current objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and play regularly, and to establish myself at my club.”
