Manchester United fans have been warned to not get ahead of themselves despite their feelgood victory against Crystal Palace.
The Carabao Cup holders have progressed to the fourth round, easing to a 3-0 win over the Eagles at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The performance had club legend Gary Neville purring, as he posted on social media: “The best United have played all season.”
Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro scored before the half-hour mark, before Anthony Martial popped up with his first goal of the season in the 55th minute.
With Sofyan Amrabat making his first start and Raphael Varane and Mason Mount also included in the line-up after returning from injury, there are lots of reasons for United supporters to smile about.
It is now back-to-back victories for United following the 1-0 win over Burnley which put an end to three consecutive defeats in all competitions.
But talkSPORT host and ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has told fans to not get sucked in by the result as they were playing against a heavily-rotated side that barely laid a glove on them.
Roy Hodgson made six changes for the match ahead of Saturday’s return to the Theatre of Dreams to face United in the Premier League.
Speaking on The Sports Bar, Cundy said: “What a lovely team to play, Crystal Palace made half-a-dozen, seven changes, something like that.
“They’re playing them Saturday, I think Roy Hodgson did the right thing. Is he going to beat Manchester United tonight and at the weekend? Probably not, actually.
“So he’s gone there, he’s fielded a team that he thought would be competitive, he will be disappointed that they weren’t.
“Man United fans will be leaving Old Trafford – most of them will be thinking, ‘thank God we played a team like that, because we needed that. We needed a team that sat deep, offered nothing.’
“I get why Palace did what they did, I’ve got no complaints.”
Interjecting, Jamie O’Hara remarked: “You might as well go and try and win the game then, and say, ‘look lads, go out an enjoy yourselves’.
“The way they played, they weren’t even trying to track, they weren’t even trying to defend properly, they were just defending spaces.”
It led Cundy to state: “Well the difference is between the two squads, they’ve got Amrabat, Mason Mount coming back from injury, they’ve got players there that would definitely walk into Palace’s first XI.
“So I understand why Roy has done what he’s done, he’ll be disappointed with the performance, he shouldn’t be too downbeat.
“Manchester United fans think that this is a turning point and, ‘he played well,’ ‘Casemiro this’ and, ‘oh, look at Garnacho’, honestly, don’t get sucked into this one.
“Because this was a walk in the park, we’ll find out on Saturday where they are, because they have not been playing great, this was a nice warm-up.
“You know in the Grand Slams, all that is, is like a No.3 seed beating a No.64 seed – 3-0. That’s it. Straight sets.
“And everyone is going, ‘oh did you see him yesterday on centre court?’ Don’t get sucked in.”
