Newcastle have presented an improved offer for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to David Ornstein.

The Magpies are doing everything in their power to get a deal for the Slovenia international over the line. Last week, Newcastle made their opening offer worth €75 million plus €5m in add-ons.

Leipzig ultimately deemed the bid insufficient, but talks have continued in a respectful manner, with the Bundesliga side appreciative of the fact that Newcastle matched their €75m fixed asking price instead of trying to low-ball them.

In recent days, the main point of discussion has been the potential bonuses and their structure. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Newcastle have now presented their second formal offer for the 22-year-old.

The St. James’ Park club have raised their guaranteed fee to €80m, which could ultimately tip the balance in their favour as this is more than what rivals Man Utd have shown themselves willing to pay. Fabrizio Romano reports that the bid consists of €80m fixed and €10m in add-ons.

Everything hinges on Sesko’s decision

Man Utd have held talks with Leipzig over the potential finances of a deal, but these discussions have not yet reached a formal stage. Ornstein, therefore, states that Newcastle’s latest bid leaves them in a ‘strong position.’

That said, the main thing this deal still hinges on is the decision of the player. Newcastle have indicated that they are ready to pay whatever it takes to land Sesko, but the youngster remains undecided.

Sesko, his agent and his family are currently in Leipzig trying to arrive at the decision they feel will be best for the 22-year-old. Man Utd remain firmly in the mix as Newcastle have yet to receive a sign that he is keen to head to the Northeast. Eddie Howe wants an answer within 48 hours.

Leipzig, too, remain an integral part of the equation. The Red Bulls insist that they will not sell below their asking price, so even if Sesko were to pick Man Utd, the Red Devils would have to match the German club’s demands, which is not a given due to their current financial situation.
