Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury sustained in the 2-1 win over Tottenham
Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will be missing until April after suffering a hamstring injury.
The Magpies now have scan results following the 2-1 victory over Tottenham and he is anticipated to be absent for eight weeks. The setback leaves Newcastle depleted in midfield with Lewis Miley also nursing a knee problem.
Despite reports from Brazil – via ESPN – Bruno is not anticipated to be unavailable for 10 weeks and Newcastle expect him to be out of action until April, and missing for eight weeks at most reports Chronicle Live. Nevertheless, those in Bruno’s circle are optimistic he is a quick healer and can beat the initial prognosis.

A source close to Bruno told Chronicle Live: “Bruno will recover quickly. He takes great care of his body, his mind and his life. We have to trust the process.”
The Newcastle captain begins his spell on the sidelines at Aston Villa in the FA Cup and will be unavailable for both legs of the Champions League play-offs against Qarabag. It also means he is extremely likely to miss the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.
Bruno himself had said after the Spurs clash: “Once again, I hope it [the injury] is nothing too serious and that I can be back soon.”

Speaking to reporters at Spurs, Howe stated: “I’m not sure. He’s a little bit worried. He said he’s not sure he’s never had a problem with his hamstrings before, so is it cramp? Was it a muscle problem?
“It probably feels more of an injury to me but let’s wait and see. We’ll try and stay positive at this moment.
The sole silver lining for Bruno is that he won’t be absent for the season’s climax and has dodged a lengthy layoff, ensuring his participation in the World Cup finals.
