Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon looks to have avoided serious injury after fears he had damaged his knee at Chelsea on Monday.

Mail Sport understands the 23-year-old has experienced no swelling in the days since and, providing there is no setback, he could even return to training in the coming days.

That would put Gordon in contention for a place in Gareth Southgate‘s England squad which is named on Thursday.

Gordon was forced off in the first half at Stamford Bridge – in front of Southgate – after feeling pain in his left knee and Eddie Howe said afterwards that it ‘did not look good’.
