Manchester City are Pep Guardiola’s last club, the coach himself announced in a podcast with Dani Garcia.

The Spaniard recently extended his contract in Manchester until the summer of 2026, but his words are clear. “I’m not going to manage any other football club after Manchester City. I don’t have the energy,” he said.

“The thought of starting somewhere else, the whole training process, etc. No, no, no! I’m not talking about the long term. Something I’m definitely not going to do is leave the club or go to another country,” the coach told García.

“Maybe a national team managership, but that’s different. I want to leave the profession and play golf, but that’s not possible. There will come a time when I think it’s enough and then I’ll definitely stop,” he added.

Guardiola at Man City

Guardiola and Man City reached an agreement on a contract extension just three weeks ago after lengthy negotiations. The former footballer signed a two-year extension in Manchester, until the summer of 2027.

Not everyone expected Guardiola to sign a new contract with the English top club. The Spaniard did not even have an escape clause included in his contract in case the British giants were to be relegated due to alleged violations of the ‘Financial Fair Play’ rules.

The latter is considered even more remarkable, as Man City are under investigation by the Premier League for 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations. The Cityzens themselves strongly deny these charges. Should the club be found guilty, one or more immediate relegations could be among the consequences.

Guardiola himself seems to be sticking to his guns with his contract extension. He himself had previously indicated that he would remain loyal to Man City even if they were relegated to League One. With the signing of the new contract, the coach seems to be keeping his promise.

The 53-year-old coach was previously linked with the England job where Thomas Tuchel eventually took over. It also recently emerged that the successful coach was also in the picture as national coach of Brazil.
