Nice put pressure on Brest, Clermont thrash Reims

Clermont 4-1 Reims: Les Lanciers within four points of play-offs 

Clermont fans can still bear hopes of survival after a convincing 4-1  win against Reims puts them only four points away from the relegation play-off zone. Muhammed Cham opened the scoring via the penalty spot on the after a handball was spotted by the referee in the Reims box (31′). It would only take a few minutes later for Reims to find their reply through Keito Nakaumura via an acrobatic volley, as Will Still’s side looked to go on and win the game (33′).

Yet the script turned when Mohamed Cham was once again involved and was brought down for a second penalty, once again converted by the Austrian midfielder for his ninth goal in Ligue 1 Uber Eats (55′). Clermont would then go two ahead through Rashani who came in with a finish at the back post (78′) and then another goal in injury time with a left-footed finish into the far corner of the net (90′) to seal three massive points for the hosts.

Strasbourg 1-3 OGC Nice: Les Aiglons close in on 4th place 

OGC Nice came from behind to secure an important victory on the road which piles the pressure on Brest in the European positions. It was the hosts who initially took the lead via Dilane Bakwa’s strike on the rebound (18′) before Mohamed Ali-Cho was tripped in the box and a penalty was given to Nice just before half-time. Guessand would step up and convert to equalise for Nice, before a header from Dante put Les Aiglons back in front early in the second period (52′). 

Nice would go onto to score a third via former RCSA man Morgan Sanson, who was served by a ball into a central position on the edge of the box, and finished delightfully past Bellaarouch (84′) to seal an important three points for Les Aiglons in their quest for European football.

Lorient were looking to fight their way to safety and try to go level with Metz after their loss against Lille earlier in the day (1-2), and things were looking bright for the Breton side when they went ahead thanks to a strike from Julien Ponceau (18′). Yet Les Violets would equalise in the second period thanks to a decisive header from the ever-present Thijs Dallinga (60′) before going ahead after Ibrahim Cissoko struck on the counter attack and beat Yann Mvogo to the ball in devastating fashion (84′).
