“Nico was fantastic” – Kane hails Jackson’s performance against Pafos

Harry Kane was full of praise for Nicolas Jackson after Bayern’s win over Pafos.

Nicolas Jackson opened his Bayern Munich account on Tuesday night, scoring in the 5-1 Champions League victory over Pafos.

After the game, Harry Kane was full of praise for his new strike partner, who arrived on loan from Chelsea towards the end of the summer transfer window.

“Nico was fantastic today: a goal, an assist and almost another goal at the end. I’m very pleased for him. We’ll need him all season, hopefully he stays fit and fresh – it was a really good performance from him today,” said the England captain.

With Jackson leading the line, Kane operated in a deeper role, something he felt worked well.

“At times I dropped back a bit, more like a ten, and he came in and received the balls. I think it’s important to keep surprising defenders and not do the same thing all match.”

Jackson himself was understandably delighted to get off the mark for Bayern.

“I’m very happy about my first goal. It’s a new start for me, I haven’t played for a long time but I’m getting fitter and fitter and trying to get to my best level as soon as possible,” he said.

The 23-year-old added that he still has work to do before reaching top form.

“It’s hard to say how far I am from my best level. I didn’t play for almost two months, and also trained alone. It’s a process, I’m trying every day to learn and improve myself. I feel very at home after my first few weeks in Munich. Everyone’s welcomed me really well, there are great people here. I’m very happy – and we’ll see what the future brings.”
