Nicolas Jackson speaks out on “emotional rollercoaster” move to Bayern

Nicolas Jackson has opened up on his dramatic move to Bayern Munich.

In an interview with Sport Bild, Nicolas Jackson opened up about his hectic loan move from Chelsea to Bayern Munich, which was finalised just before the summer transfer window closed.

The deal was thrown into doubt upon his arrival at Munich airport, as an injury to Liam Delap led Chelsea to reconsider sending him out on loan.

However, after Jackson and his agent made clear how eager he was to make the move, Chelsea ultimately agreed to let him join the German champions.

“It was truly an emotional rollercoaster. So much happened in such a short time, and sitting in the hotel room, waiting, thinking, hoping… those were very intense moments. But deep down, I always believed the transfer would happen. I was thrilled by the idea of joining a club like Bayern – such a historic institution in world football,” Jackson said, adding:

“When Bayern call and say they want you, you don’t think twice. You’re simply excited and ready to join. Then, after the first conversations with [board member for sport] Max Eberl and especially with coach Kompany, I was 100 percent convinced that this was the right step for me. 

“From the very first call, I felt a special connection with the coach. He showed me that he truly wanted me in his project and explained in detail how he plans to integrate me into his offensive system – especially with all the fantastic players already here.”

Bayern are obligated to make Jackson’s move permanent for €65 million if he starts 40 matches this season. 

While that threshold may be difficult to hit, a permanent stay could still be possible if the striker impresses during his loan spell.

“Right now, I’m focusing only on giving my all this season. Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world – with amazing fans, a fantastic coach, and a real will to win,” said Jackson. 

“If everything goes well and everyone is happy, I would, of course, love to stay. But for now, it’s about the present: working hard and enjoying every moment on and off the pitch,” he concluded.

Jackson faces his parent club, Chelsea, as Bayern kick off their Champions League campaign on Wednesday.
