Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he wants to have the final say on the club’s transfer business.
The Portuguese tactician faced the media on Friday for his first pre-match press conference as new Man Utd head coach. The Red Devils will travel to Ipswich Town on Sunday and Amorim is determined to rectify the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season.
Since the announcement of Erik ten Hag’s sacking and the swift appointment of Amorim, transfer speculation has been rampant, with the latter surely in need of new players to play his preferred 3-4-3 system.

However, unlike his predecessor, Amorim only bears the title of head coach rather than manager, illustrating the new hierarchy at Old Trafford following the investment of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.
Whereas Ten Hag was the driving force behind Man Utd’s signings prior to INEOS, Amorim does not even have a transfer veto in his contract, which has led to some uncertainty over his involvement in the club’s business.
Amorim sets the record straight
Of course, Amorim was always going to have a say in Man Utd’s upcoming transfers. After all, he is the one tasked with getting the club back on their perch.
Still, his involvement was expected to be massively reduced compared to Ten Hag’s now that the likes of technical director Jason Wilcox and sporting director Dan Ashworth are in charge of recruitment.

However, the tactician has now publically made it clear to club bosses that he ought to be the one who ultimately decides whether a player does or does not get signed.
“We have to improve the process of recruitment,” he insisted on Friday. “I want to have a strong position on that because of how I want to play. It should be together but I think the manager should get the final say.
“When everything is aligned, we can buy and sell players. I have a great responsibility when we choose players because that is something that should be done in this way. I should be able to choose the players.”
