Odegaard 2.0 makes transfer call after ‘OVERWHELMING’ interest: Not going to wait until the summer

Sverre Nypan, the young Rosenborg star who has been favourably compared to Martin Odegaard, has indicated that he is ready to make a decision on his future before the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old Norwegian had been subject to intense interest in January that has been described as “overwhelming”.

Premier League clubs took a particularly hard look at the playmaker, with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City all linked with him.

Nypan ultimately rejected their approaches in favour of remaining with Rosenborg for another few months, taking a very different approach to Odegaard, who left his homeland for Real Madrid aged 16.

While the speculation is set to remain, Nypan intends to make his decision before the next transfer window opens in a bid to avoid the circus that has followed him this term.

His father, Arne Nypan, told VG: “We know the clubs interest in Sverre. It’s been very important. It’s not been interesting to be a pawn in a big game.

“The clubs that are very interested are also very understanding of this choice and think it is completely okay. Sverre should be part of a long-term project and a generational change.

“He hasn’t played a game since the first of December. When he signs in the summer and hopefully has been injury-free, he will be at his best. It is much better to show him off with that starting point.

“We are not going to wait until the summer window opens to make a decision.”

Big move not guaranteed

Nypan’s agent is Rafaela Pimenta, who masterminded Erling Haaland’s rise to becoming the most valuable player in the game.

Haaland did not make one great leap to a major club, instead moving to Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund before joining Manchester City, and this is a career path that Nypan could follow, despite interest from Arsenal and others.
