Genoa captain Johan Vasquez (@genoacfc)
Genoa have officially announced the extension of their contract with captain and Mexico international Johan Vasquez until June 2028.
The central defender has amassed 108 competitive appearances for the club, also scoring six goals.
Vasquez a long-term commitment for Genoa
He first joined Genoa from Pumas in the summer of 2021 on loan, completing the transfer in January 2022 for a total sum of €4m.
There was also a loan to Cremonese during the 2022-23 campaign, but since then he has been ever-present in the Grifone back line.
Vasquez was promoted to captain this season, and today signed a new contract that will hold him to the Marassi side until June 2028.
He also has 36 senior caps for Mexico at international level, contributing one goal from defence.
Genoa celebrated the announcement by playing on his nickname ‘La Muralla’ (The Wall) with images on social media of him laying bricks and a message noting he was placing ‘another brick in the wall.’
