Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has officially completed a loan move to Bayern Munich.
One of the most bizarre sagas of the transfer window has come to a peaceful conclusion after all. Jackson has joined reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern on an initial loan – at the second time of asking.
The Senegal international already looked set to complete his move at the weekend, only for Chelsea to order him to return to London after Liam Delap went down injured in their clash with Fulham on Saturday.
Jackson was already in Munich for his medical and refused to head back to England, with his agent and Bayern trying everything in their power to keep the deal alive.
In the end, Chelsea decided to recall Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland and renegotiated the deal with Bayern for Jackson.
Bayern sign Jackson
An initial loan fee of €15 million was bumped up to €16.5m, and Bayern’s €65m option to purchase the 24-year-old became an obligation, although reports in Germany suggest that it will be difficult to trigger a permanent move.
Bayern have now announced that they have successfully snapped up Jackson in what is a major coup for the Munich outfit. While Harry Kane is still the undisputed starting striker, Jackson will make the Bundesliga giants less reliant on the England captain.
Moreover, the Senegal international can also play out on the left wing, offering cover for new signing Luis Diaz, who has been very good so far. Jackson is the type of player who will thrive in the Bundesliga.
As for Chelsea, they will make a handsome profit on Jackson if his stay in Munich becomes permanent, having signed him in 2023 for €37m in summer 2023. He still has an incredible eight years remaining on his Blues contract.
