Official : Cornet joins Genoa from West Ham on September 1 as mystery is solved

The Maxwel Cornet mystery was solved, as after Genoa removed a social media announcement and his contract didn’t appear before the transfer deadline, he did arrive from West Ham United.

There was confusion in the last few minutes before the transfer deadline when Genoa first published a video announcing the signing of Cornet, then removed it.

Hours passed and there was no sign of the contract having been registered with the Lega Serie A, suggesting something had gone awry with the last-minute move.

Reason behind Cornet delay

However, the mystery was solved as a technical problem with the Lega Serie A registering system, and Genoa were assured the deal had gone through.

Cornet joins Genoa on loan, which is effectively a return, as he had already spent the last six months of last season here in a similar agreement.

This time there is an option to buy at the end of the season.

He had impressed at Marassi, scoring two goals and providing one assist in only seven Serie A appearances.

The Frenchman turns 29 later this month.
