Positive news for all Freiburg fans – Die Breisgau have been able to extend the contract of midfielder Maxi Eggestein.

“I’ve been here for almost three years and it feels like I’ve been here even longer – that shows me, that I’m at the right place for my career” , says Eggestein.

Freiburg signed Eggestein from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2021. Since then he has played 116 times for the club, scoring six and assisting eight goals.

Before the start of the current season, Eggestein had been voted to be the new vice-captain of the club together with Vincenzo Grifo – behind club legend Christian Günter.

“We are on a really good path and I’m excited for the future in Freiburg,” says the 27-year old.

Both parties decided to keep further information about the new contract private. Sporting director Klemens Hartenbach calls Eggestein “a key element for Freiburg’s success in recent years.”
