Juventus have now purchased Lloyd Kelly on a permanent basis from Newcastle United for a total fee of €17.5m plus bonuses.

The defender arrived in the January transfer window on loan at a cost of €3m with an option to buy that would become an obligation if certain conditions were met.

It is widely reported those ‘conditions’ were simply that Juventus would remain in Serie A, making it a foregone conclusion.

Today Newcastle United released a statement confirming the move had been completed, citing it as an ‘undisclosed fee.’

This fee was very clearly disclosed by the Juventus statement in January, as is the requirement in Italy for clubs who are floated on the stock exchange.

Juve are paying a further €14.5m plus up to €3m in performance-related bonuses.

The 26-year-old made 12 Serie A appearances, two in the Champions League and one in the Coppa Italia this season.

This investment is believed to be one of the biggest mistakes attributed to director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli, who was sacked after just two years at the club.
