Parma have decided to sack head coach Fabio Pecchia in the wake of the Gialloblu’s 1-0 home defeat against Roma, which extended their Serie A winless streak to seven games.

The dismissal of a manager who had extended his contract with the club in late October comes as a drastic decision from president Kyle Krause, who saw the Crociati plunge into the relegation zone after a promising start to the season.

Parma sack Pecchia after Roma defeat

Parma have been sitting 18th for the last few weeks, with five defeats from their last six Serie A outings making their situation look critical now.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the club made a final decision on Pecchia on Monday, opting to sack the coach who steered the Gialloblu back to Serie A last season.

The reporter also added that Parma has their favourite candidate to replace Pecchia in Igor Tudor, although the former Lazio boss isn’t reportedly keen on accepting the job. Former Inter star Christian Chivu, who has been coaching the Nerazzurri’s Primavera side until last season, is also said to be on Parma’s list of potential replacements.

“Parma Calcio and Fabio Pecchia have parted ways,” the club wrote in an official statement published on Monday night.

“After 110 matches in charge of the Gialloblu, the Club would like to highlight the milestones that were achieved together, culminating in the historic 2023/24 Serie B triumph.

“During a spell that lasted over two years, Fabio Pecchia and his staff left an indelible mark on the Gialloblu’s history, achieving sporting objectives while displaying admirable human qualities and great professionalism.

“Parma Calcio wishes the best of luck to Fabio and his staff in their future endeavours.”
