The legendary manager has agreed to commit his future to the club until 2027. Guardiola’s previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2025, putting Man City in a precarious position.

Guardiola had spent the previous summer playing coy on his future and this was a worrying development for the reigning Premier League champions as their current squad profile has raised questions over whether the players could cope with the manager’s departure.

Unsurprisingly, then, the Cityzens were desperate to extend the 53-year-old’s stay at the club to ensure a smooth transition in the future. Guardiola has signed a two-year extension, with multiple reports confirming there is no break clause in the deal.

“This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club,” Guardiola said. “That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons.

“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much. Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

Guardiola at Man City

Guardiola’s guaranteed contract until 2027 will see him complete a decade in charge of Man City during which he cemented his place as arguably the game’s most brilliant manager.

The Catalan tactician has to date won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, three Community Shields, a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup each as well as the crown jewel of Man City’s trophy case, the 2023 Champions League as part of a historic treble.

Guardiola previously enjoyed successful stints at Barcelona, where he assembled arguably the greatest club side ever, and Bayern Munich, with whom he still holds the record of winning the Bundesliga with the most games to spare (seven).
