- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in attendance for Wolves’ clash with Ipswich
- The former Manchester United boss has been out of the dugout since 2021
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pictured watching on from the stands at Molineux as Wolves prepared to play host to Ipswich.
The former Manchester United manager could be seen taking in his surroundings from a box in the stadium prior to the clash on Saturday.
Solskjaer was also spotted shaking hands with Wolves first-team coach, former Crystal Palace and Leeds midfielder Shaun Derry.
The surprise appearance led to speculation that Solskjaer could be in line to replace O’Neil at the West Midlands club, with pressure mounting on him following a dismal start to the campaign.
However, Mail Sport understands Solskjaer had been there to support Tractor Boys boss Kieran McKenna, who previously served as one of his coaches during the Norwegian’s spell in charge at Old Trafford.
In 2023 Solskjaer heaped praise on McKenna for their time working together, calling him the most ‘process-driven coach’ he had worked alongside.

‘Kieran was a surprise to me when I got to United.’ Solskjaer told The Athletic after departing the club.
‘Michael, I already knew. We’d been coached by Sir Alex [Ferguson], from the old school. Kieran was not. He’s the most thorough and analytical, step-by-step, process-driven coach that I’ve worked with.
‘He makes it so easy for the players to see and understand what we wanted from them. He’d do that the day before a game and his memory was also fantastic, his eye for detail too.’
Gary O’Neil’s side entered the clash four points from safety, with just two wins from their opening 15 Premier League games.
Their opponents have endured a similarly difficult start to the campaign, with McKenna’s side languishing in the relegation zone after returning to the top flight for the first time in more than two decades.
