Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that he has retired from management three years after being sacked by Manchester United.
Solskjaer has been without a job since being relieved of his duties at Old Trafford back in November 2021.
The Norwegian spent three years at the helm in his beloved Manchester, returning to the club in 2018 – 11 years on from his playing days at the Red Devils.
Three years on from his departure, the 51-year-old has no intention of returning to the dugout, despite various offers. Instead, he is in the process of building a house on Kristiansund – an island in Norway.
‘Now I do exactly what I want and enjoy myself,’ He told Norwegian radio NRK podcast Bakrommet. ‘I’m moving in in a couple of weeks.

‘I have reached a position where I can pick and choose, and I am lucky there. Financially, I don’t need anything.’
When he is not working on his dream property, which he reportedly spent just under £800,000 on in 2010, Solskjaer works part-time as a match analyst for UEFA.
And while it seems that the United legend is settled away from management, he hasn’t completely ruled out a job in international football in the future.
‘It must be something exciting enough, together with the right people,’ he continued. ‘But I feel so well now that there must be something that triggers me enough for me to choose to travel from Nordmore [in Norway].
‘I think that a national team could suit me, but then it can’t be on the other side of the globe.
‘I had two options, but it would have taken half a day to travel, and there is a time difference in the picture, so I opted out. Even if I could then take part in the championship.’
Back in September, Solskjaer ignited rumours in his homeland that he would be open to taking the Norway job following the news that current boss Stale Solbakken will likely step down following the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking in Oslo two months ago, he said: ‘I am a proud Norwegian. If the question comes up, when Stale finds out that he doesn’t want it anymore, I’m happy to enter into a conversation.

‘I would say yes any day of the week. It feels wrong to sit and talk about jobs that other people have. But of course, I would say yes.’
However, Solskjaer has since admitted that he is not waiting around for the job and is instead hoping his good friend Solbakken can lead the country to football’s biggest international tournament.
‘No, I’m not [waiting for the job],’ claimed Solskjaer. ‘Firstly, nothing is better than Norway qualifying for a [major] tournament. If we manage to do it now and qualify for the World Cup in 2026, it’s time.
‘That’s what we all hope for. And we hope we do it as soon as possible, while Stale is there.’
