Speaking in the mixed room after a nail-biting 1-0 win over Mainz this afternoon, RB Leipzig coach Ole Werner was content to secure the win on the road.

“We defended sensationally in the second half. As a team, it’s important to know that one goal can be enough to win games and that we have a certain stability when everyone does their job. So, a huge compliment.

“It’s important that we grow together as a team; we have a lot of changes. That all has to develop, and for that, today was a great game.

“Simply because you know that if you do things together and are disciplined, you can get points through team unity. It was a very important game for our development,” he said.

The game’s only goal-scorer Johan Bakayoko, also expressed his delight at coming to the Mewa Arena and helping his side to the victory.

“I feel good about taking home the three points. We haven’t changed our mindset since the first game, but we’ve made progress and improved. Now you can see the result.

For my goal, I moved to the middle and shot, which I do often. I’m happy and pleased for the team. I want to help the team as much as possible with goals and assists,” he added.
