Onana’s ‘horrific error’ gifts Bayern lead against Man United as Kane gets assist

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana made a monumental error in the Champions League, gifting Bayern Munich their opening goal.

Making his Champions League debut for the Red Devils, Onana was guilty of a shoddy save from Leroy Sane’s speculative effort.

Onana was guilty of a mighty howler

Just before the half-hour mark, Harry Kane teed up the former Manchester City star, who tried one from distance that appeared to look easy to save.

But Onana failed to push the ball out and it flew under his arms and into the corner, much to the delight of fans at the Allianz Arena.

“A horrific goalkeeping error from Onana,” Stuart Pearce said on commentary for talkSPORT.

Fans were not impressed with the former Inter Milan star and one said: “That’s what happens when you buy a Centre Mid to play in goal.”

Another wrote: “De dea was so much better.”

And a third posted: “Onana is finissshhheeeddd.”

Serge Gnabry then added a second after a wonderful run from Jamal Musiala just minutes later, undoing all of United’s good work early in the match which saw Christian Eriksen force Sven Ulreich into a smart save.

It put Bayern Munich in a healthy position before half-time to pile on the misery for Erik ten Hag.

Onana has already come under fire this season after replacing David de Gea between the sticks.

The Spaniard was released at the end of last season when his contract expired and was replaced by Onana, who worked under Ten Hag at Ajax.

But it has been a tough start to life at Old Trafford and the 27-year-old has conceded 10 goals from 13 shots on target this season already.

However, his howler against Bayern might be the worst of the lot, especially at a time when United looked like they could have taken the lead.
