Federico Macheda and Mario Balotelli were the only Italian players to win the Premier League before Federico Chiesa, but Macheda didn’t reach the minimum number of appearances to receive a medal.

Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool officially secured the 20th Premier League title in their history on Sunday, after a 5-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield.

This means Chiesa has become the third Italian player to win the domestic title in England, but only one of his predecessors received the winners’ medal.

Macheda and Balotelli previously won the Premier League, but Macheda, a former Manchester United striker, did not receive the medal in 2008-09 despite scoring two goals, as he had not made at least 10 league appearances with the Red Devils.

On the other hand, Balotelli contributed to Manchester City’s title under Roberto Mancini in 2011-12 with 13 goals in 23 league matches.

Chiesa has made four Premier League appearances this season, but there are different rules compared to Macheda’s time at Old Trafford, so the Italian winger will only need one more game with the Reds to get his winners’ medal at the end of the season.
