Orlando City forward Duncan McGuire’s transfer to Blackburn Rovers is reportedly on the brink of collapsing for a second time due to a registration error by the second-division English team.

The 22-year-old McGuire’s dramatic transfer saga began when he first took a flight to England on Wednesday, only for Blackburn to call Orlando and the striker’s agent to inform them that they had pulled out of the deal for reasons which remain unclear.

Rather than turning the plane around, McGuire still flew to England and stayed in his hotel while other teams attempted to secure a deadline-day deal for his services.

Blackburn then re-entered the mix and agreed with Orlando on a new deal for McGuire, yet The Athletic are now reporting that it is set to collapse once again – this time because of a registration issue.

‘I am not allowed to speak about that case,’ manager Jon Dahl Tomasson told reporters when asked about the McGuire situation following their 2-1 loss to QPR.

‘I think you should ask Steve (Waggott), Suhail (Shaikh) and the ownership about the Duncan McGuire case.’

Blackburn are set to appeal the decision in the hope of getting the move pushed through.

If the appeal does not work out in their favor, they would not be able to register McGuire until the summer transfer window opens long after the Championship season is complete.

McGuire was set to join Blackburn on an initial loan with an option to buy, however that would become much more complicated if he is not able to play a single minute during the loan.

If McGuire’s move to Blackburn does indeed collapse, those within Orlando City would surely be happy to have him return to the squad.

Orlando did not want McGuire to leave in the first place but were acceptant of his wishes to push for a move overseas.

If he does in fact return to MLS, McGuire could – and likely would – push for a move to England or a European league this summer.
