Palmer responds to Chelsea links with Man Utd wonderkid Mainoo

Cole Palmer has given his seal of approval to Chelsea potentially signing Kobbie Mainoo.

Transfer insider David Ornstein has rocked Manchester United supporters in recent days with the revelation that not even their most cherished academy stars are safe from Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ruthless money-making schemes.

The Athletic journalist claimed that both Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are no longer untouchable and that they could be sacrificed due to Man Utd‘s need to raise funds.

The same outlet reported on Tuesday that the Red Devils are ‘creaking under debt’ and finding cash hard to come by, which means that they won’t be able to spend big this month and could prioritise some potentially painful sales.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Mainoo is set to be offloaded imminently. On the contrary, Man Utd would ideally keep him and extend his contract, but talks have proved difficult of late.

Palmer approves of Mainoo transfer

Fabrizio Romano, for example, has sought to play down suggestions that Mainoo could be on the move soon, which comes after a sensational report on Tuesday had claimed that Chelsea are leading the race for the 19-year-old midfielder.

However, the prospect of such a move, no matter how unlikely, has certainly got people talking. It would be a transfer that would send Man Utd fans into meltdown, while Chelsea supporters would love to have such a talented player in their squad, albeit there appears to be no urgent need for another midfielder.

Still, this spectacular rumour has even found its way into the Chelsea dressing room and Mainoo’s England teammate Cole Palmer has already given his seal of approval to the deal.

The Blues superstar was seen on Instagram ‘liking’ a post about the rumour, which featured an edited picture of Mainoo in a Chelsea kit, clearly indicating that the wonderkid would be welcomed with open arms at Stamford Bridge.
