Paul Scholes rips into ‘quitter’ Marcus Rashford as true feelings laid bare

Marcus Rashford has been in fine form for Barcelona in the Champions League, but his former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes has been left unimpressed by the England star

Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has made an astonishing claim as he accused Marcus Rashford of ‘quitting’ after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim. The 27-year-old got off the mark for the Catalan club in the Champions League with a brace that sunk Newcastle United last week.

The forward also chipped in with an assist during their weekend 3-0 triumph against Getafe, extending his impressive beginning since his latest temporary switch from Old Trafford. Rashford has returned to the headlines following his positive performances but it comes after his unceremonious exit after being cast aside under the Portuguese tactician.

Rashford expressed his desire to explore his options after spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. Late in the summer transfer window, his move to a Champions League club came to fruition.

His displays for Unai Emery’s outfit secured him a recall to the England squad after slipping down the hierarchy under Thomas Tuchel’s predecessor, Gareth Southgate.

While Scholes acknowledged Rashford’s ability, he hammered the 27-year-old’s mentality regarding his behaviour during his troublesome period with United.

“There’s no doubt the talent that kid has got, it’s ridiculous, he’s shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant,” he said.

“I really struggled to feel happy for him, to feel pleased for him.

“Mainly because his attitude, his attitude at United. The time he was leaving, I thought it was just disgrace at United, not trying, basically.

“Look, if you fell out with a manager, then OK, but remember, you’ve got teammates you’re playing with.

“You’ve got a massive 80,000 there, whatever it is, every single week that you have to put a bit of effort in.

“The amount of times I saw him at United walking because he wants to leave, I thought his whole demeanour was a disgrace.

“I think he actually quit on Manchester United. And once you quit once, you’ll quit again.”
