Paul Scholes thinks Rasmus Hojlund can turn things around despite a run of 20 matches without scoring a goal but will never be one to score 25-30 times a season.

The United striker has become a target for fans after a miserable run which has seen him fail to find the net since the start of December.

Ruben Amorim still opted to start him in Thursday’s Europa League last-16 second leg against Real Sociedad, United’s last hope of silverware this season.

And speaking on TNT Sports ahead of the game, legendary Red Devils midfielder Scholes said he believes the goals will come for Hojlund.

‘He has a lack of movement and there is a lack of creativity in behind,’ Scholes said. ‘I have been worried about him, that goal drought, he hasn’t really been looking like scoring, but he is getting chances now where he could have done better.

‘I don’t think he is far away and tonight could be the night, the trouble is he is left on his own.

‘For United to be left with one centre-forward, a 22-year-old who didn’t have a great record… he needs help and there is no help from Alejandro Garnacho.

‘The reliability for goals has come from Fernandes. A lack of confidence, but I don’t think he is far away.’

‘Some of the quality of Bruno Fernandes in behind shouldn’t be an issue, confidence of course but his movement does have to be better, he has to be more ruthless as a centre-forward and needs help.

‘We saw a great example with Diogo Dalot last week. Once he gets one he is the type of player to carry on.

‘He won’t be a 25-30 season guy the evidence isn’t there, he needs help round him, having that confidence helps massively.’
