Paul Wanner provided a great assist that led to Heidenheim securing Bundesliga status, but he sees room for improvement in his game.

The 19-year-old Paul Wanner will initially return to Bayern after a successful loan spell at Heidenheim. The Germany U21 midfielder is expected to leave once again with another loan deal next season.

“I think I’ve been able to take a lot with me,” said Wanner about his spell at Heidenheim. Against his former club Elversberg, Wanner assisted Leo Scienza’s winner to keep Heidenheim in top-flight football. Despite losing his starting role in the crucial stage of the season, he also scored 10 goals in 41 appearances.

“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but also a lot of games in the Conference League, and you can take a lot with you for the following seasons. And that’s why I’m satisfied so far,” said the skilled attacker in an interview with RTL.

However, he’s also looked back at things he can improve in the future. “I can’t say I’m satisfied with my physicality. And, there’s always room for improvement in all areas. I would have liked to have played more. But, in the end, the coach always makes the decision, and you have to find as many arguments as possible to play.”
