Sir Jim Ratcliffe has continued his cost-cutting measures at Manchester United after it was revealed that cash prizes and bonuses to stewards, worth up to £150, have been scrapped
Ratcliffe took over as minority owner of United in February and increased his stake in the club this week, investing a further £75 million to take his ownership percentage to 28.49%.
However, the billionaire has overseen a number of small cost-cutting measures during his time at United, handing redundancies to more than 250 employees and perks such as Christmas parties and company cards cancelled.

United also have seen protests from fans in recent weeks after scrapping some concession tickets and increasing prices by 124% in some areas.
And i report that stewards at Old Trafford – some of the club’s lowest-paid members of staff – have also seen cuts this season such as the scrapping of a £100 bonus for every 10 matches.
A ‘steward of the week’ award was also given with a prize bonus of £50 but was scrapped, leading to some long-term staff leaving the club due to the treatment by Ratcliffe.
Stewards loyalty rewards also cut by United
Among the measures, United have also considered halving funds given to the club’s disabled supporters’ association, while travel perks for staff for the FA Cup final in May also were withdrawn.
Frank Robinson was a steward for 24 years before stepping down from his role after the treatment by Ratcliffe and the 67-year-old criticised ‘petty’ United for ‘pinching off people at the bottom of the ladder.’
During Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at United, staff were often given a personalised engraved timepiece worth upwards of £1,000 if they reached 25 years at the club, however now the reward is a generic bag worth £150.
“You look at the value – £150, that equates to basically two match fees. That’s all they’re getting for 25 years,” Robinson said.
“It’s not about what they’re getting, it’s how it’s been downgraded to this is all a steward is worth now to the club.”
