Sky’s Florian Plettenberg reports Rayan Philippe’s planned move to Mainz is called off in the final stage.
Mainz are already going strong in the transfer window as they signed two players this weekend. However, despite a verbal agreement, Rayan Philippe will not become the 05ers’ next signing.
Sky’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the player is disappointed as he was keen on the move. There was a €2–2.5 million fee reported for the completion of the deal with Eintracht Braunschweig, but the clubs failed to reach common terms following further negotiations.
Earlier today, Mainz signed Union Berlin’s striker Benedict Hollerbach. Including Braunschweig’s last goal of the season in their narrow playoff aggregate win that secured the club’s 2. Bundesliga status, Philippe scored 14 goals this season.
Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen also show interest in the 24-year-old French striker. The 2. Bundesliga outfit will hope to cash in on the player before his contract runs out at the end of next season.
