Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has urged his former club Barcelona to move to lure Jurgen Klopp to the Camp Nou after Xavi Hernandez’s summer exit.

The Blaugrana head coach announced his impending departure just days after the German manager’s shock decision to leave Liverpool after nine decorated years sent reverberations around the footballing world.

Xavi cited the ‘cruel and unpleasant feeling’ of being a Barcelona coach, and the belief that his time at the Catalan giants had reached ‘a point of no return’, stressing that his decision to leave at the end of the season would be final even if the club won the Champions League.

Barcelona currently sit third in LaLiga, but eight points off league leaders and historic rivals Real Madrid, and six off surprise package Girona in second.

Whilst early stirrings around Barcelona have seen former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel linked with the top job in Catalonia, Aubameyang – who now features for Ligue 1 side Marseille – believes the job would be better suited for the departing Liverpool boss.

‘Klopp gives you everything, energy, he has won great titles, he is a good coach,’ Aubameyang said on journalist Gerard Romero’s Twitch account. ‘If there is a chance for Barca he is a good option.

‘I was very comfortable with him in Dortmund. It would be incredible if could come.’

The Reds head coach – who is also set to leave at the end of the current campaign – would represent a tantalising option for the Barcelona hierarchy.

As well as seeing his side to victory in the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cups – among other accolades – Klopp has built up a powerful relationship with the Anfield faithful, whose passion and intensity for their club mimics Barcelona’s own devoted following in Spain.

But Aubamayeng’s idea to connect his former Borussia Dortmund manager with his old club could hit an immediate speed bump.

Klopp is widely thought to be planning for a sabatical from managerial duties after describing a feeling of ‘running out of energy’ at the helm of Liverpool.

‘I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again,’ the 56-year-old said.

In the announcement of his decision to step back from Liverpool, Klopp went as far to hint that he could be prepared to retire.

‘If you ask me, “Will you ever work as a manager again?” I would say now no,’ Klopp continued. ‘But I don’t know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation.

However, should Klopp renage on his thoughts of retirement, Barcelona’s prospects would be boosted strictly by the virtue of the club being based outside the Premier League.

‘What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent,’ Klopp added. ‘That’s not possible.

‘My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn’t. I couldn’t for a second think about it. There’s no chance.’

Klopp is also thought to be preparing for a life based at his sumptuous villa in Mallorca – a mere 55 minute flight from the Catalan city – which is currently being renovated into an ‘ecological family paradise’
