Pierre Emile Hojbjerg admits he is happy to remain a Tottenham player for now, despite his role on the periphery of Ange Postecoglou‘s team sparking interest for the second transfer window in a row.
Hojbjerg spent most of last summer on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid, then rejected a switch to Fulham before opting to stay put and has been in the sights of Juventus and Lyon for much of the last month.
The Denmark midfielder wants to play more. He has started only five Premier League games this season but has featured in all but one of Tottenham’s 25 matches and came off the bench at half time on Wednesday to make a crucial contribution to a 3-2 win against Brentford.
Afterwards, the 28-year-old confirmed that he had resolved to focus purely on finishing the season at Spurs, as his lawyer Lars Halgreen revealed earlier this week.

‘I definitely feel I can help the team. Again, I showed that I’m ready and of course like everyone I want to start every game. There’s no secret in that.
‘We’re all ambitious but I think the important thing is to stay ambitious on behalf of the team. This is the main thing that we can all keep our ambitions from the team’s perspective. We all have to perform for the team.
‘The key is that we are playing for something. I always said in the past like I say now, is what drives me is the purpose of fighting for something and I definitely feel that Tottenham is fighting for something.’
Spurs are out of both domestic cups and not in European competition but are fourth in the Premier League and boss Ange Postecoglou insists they are still in the title race.
‘I think next step is always what we’re looking for,’ said Hojbjerg, whose contract at Tottenham will expire next year.
‘Next match, next win and that’s what we’re looking for. The talking is not coming from me, the next game and the next step, that’s what we’re looking for.
‘I am enjoying it. You have to stay steady and you have to be aware at all times because we are playing a very aggressive and front footed football so it’s definitely something that is keeping you alive.’
