Sabrina Wittmann, the first female head coach in Germany’s top three divisions, has signed a new contract with FC Ingolstadt.

FC Ingolstadt have confirmed that head coach Sabrina Wittmann has signed a contract extension.

The 34-year-old’s previous contract with the 3. Liga side was due to expire at the end of the season.

Appointed permanently in June 2024 after a spell as interim coach, Wittmann made history as the first female coach in charge of a men’s professional team in Germany’s top three leagues.

Commenting on the contract extension, Ingolstadt managing director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said:

“Sabrina has consistently demonstrated her professional quality and leadership as head coach. Her authenticity, clear football philosophy, and unwavering focus on the sustainable development of our team and players set her apart.

“Her long-standing involvement with FC Ingolstadt 04 also brings a level of identification and responsibility for our club that is exceptional. We are confident that with her, we will continue to take the next steps in our development. That’s why it’s important for us to continue this journey with Sabrina and ensure continuity.”

Wittmann added:

“Something very valuable has been created here, especially in recent months. The foundation of mutual trust, hard work, and a special sense of togetherness is in place. Now we want to continue to strengthen this stability and follow the path we’ve started consistently. The work here brings me enormous joy, and I feel great trust from the club. I especially want to highlight the incredible collaboration with Didi Beiersdorfer, my coaching and staff team, and the squad. That’s why this contract extension simply feels right.”

The contract of Wittmann’s assistant coach, Fabian Reichler, has also been extended, with the durations of both new deals remaining undisclosed.
