Player Ratings: Milan 1-1 Inter – Dutchmen fly in thrilling derby

Netherlands internationals Stefan de Vrij and Tijjani Reijnders scored in a tense derby della Madonnina on Sunday, setting the score to 1-1. Check out the player ratings.

Milan

Maignan 6.5 – Saw Inter hit the woodwork three times and pulled off a great save on Dumfries in the second half but could do nothing to avoid the Nerazzurri’s equaliser.

Walker 6.5 – The ex-Man City defender made his Milan debut in a hybrid position, starting as a right-back but also playing as one of the three centre-backs when the Rossoneri defended with a five-man back-line. Showed all his experience, especially in the final minutes.

Tomori 6.5 – Composed on the ball, won all ground duels (via Sofascore) and finished the game with 88% passing accuracy. Milan will be happy he snubbed Tottenham.

Pavlovic 6 – Tough on every duel but took a little risk in the second half when Theo helped him win the ball from Thuram and didn’t see De Vrij coming to score Inter’s equaliser.

Theo Hernandez 6.5 – Contributed to Milan’s opening goal and was focused defensively. Milan fans and Conceiçao would love to see this version of Theo in every game.

Musah 6.5 – Left everything on the pitch, giving crucial help defensively. (78′ Terracciano 5.5)

Bennacer 6 – Played smartly in the middle of the park but was subbed off early to give more cover on the wings. (46′ Jimenez 5.5)

Reijnders 7 – The Dutchman had the best chance for Milan in the first half but saw Sommer perform an extraordinary save. A few minutes later, he gave Milan the lead with a smart finish.

Pulisic 6.5 – Often changed position across the final third, playing as an attacking midfielder or right winger. Not as explosive as usual, but he made clever touches, also in tight spaces. (85′ Gabbia 5.5)

Abraham 6 – Recovered possession in the build-up to Reijnders’ opener. Unseen in the final third but did the dirty work. (78′ Camarda 6).

Leao 7 – Like it or not, whenever he steps up, Milan create something dangerous. It also happened this evening when he set up the Reijnders goal from the left. The Portuguese also had a positive attitude defensively. (85′ Chukwueze 5)

Coach: Conceiçao 6 – Milan came three minutes close to winning their third derby from three this season. The Portuguese inevitably made defensive substitutions towards the end of the game. Inter’s quality end depth ultimately emerged, and it’s surely not his fault.

Inter

Sommer 6 – Extraordinary save to deny Reijnders, but a few minutes later, he didn’t handle the Leao pass in the best way, palming the ball towards the centre of the area and finding the Dutchman ready to score.

Pavard 6 – Celebrated a sliding tackle on Leao in the first half like he had scored a goal. Accurate passes in the build-up: 98%. (63′ Bisseck 6.5)

De Vrij 7 – Won the majority of aerial duels, kept Leao onside for Milan’s opening goal, but made up for it by scoring a late – very late – equaliser. Lega Calcio MOTM.

Bastoni 5.5 – The Italian won just one ground duel and lost possession five times. We’ve seen better versions of Bastoni. (63′ Carlos Augusto 6)

Dumfries 6 – Sloppy defensively. Milan found space down Inter’s right flank to score the opener. Hit the post in the second half and was denied by a great Maignan save. Surely not lucky.

Barella 6 – Often moved towards the right flank to create numerical advantage, but wasn’t too effective in the final third.

Calhanoglu 5 – Returned to action after nearly one month but lost possession in the middle of the park, sparking the Milan counter-attack that led to Reijnders’ opening goal. (63′ Zielinski 7)

Mkhitaryan 5.5 – Over 90% accurate passes, but didn’t make the difference at the edge of the Milan box. Too slow at times. (75′ Frattesi 6).

Dimarco 5.5 – Suffocated by Musah and Walker, Dimarco didn’t put any dangerous cross in. Had a goal disallowed in the first half for off-side (75′ Zalewski 7).

Thuram 6.5 – The Frenchman had a strong start. He linked up well with Lautaro and was unlucky in the second half when he hit the post from corner kick action. Sprinted until the very end. Unlimited stamina.

Lautaro Martinez 5.5 – Scored a goal in the first half, but it was disallowed for offside. El Toro looked more tired than Thuram, as he didn’t create much in the second half.

Coach: Inzaghi 6.5 – De Vrij’s late goal gave Inter a deserved draw. The Nerazzurri suffered Milan’s counter-attacks in the first half but looked more balanced after the break and hit the post three times before scoring the equaliser. Inzaghi’s substitutions made the difference.
