Player ratings: Parma 2-2 Inter – Second half subs change the game – Football Italia – April 5 latest

Inter lost control of a two-goal half-time advantage to draw 2-2 away against Parma in Serie A on Saturday evening. Simone Inzaghi watching on from the stands, while Cristian Chivu made the right call with his second-half sbs to turn the game on its head. 

Here are the player ratings from an end-to-end affair at the Tardini.

Parma: Suzuki 6; Delprato 6, Vogliacco 6, Valenti 5.5; Almqvist 5 (Leoni 6), Hernani 6 (Bernabe 7), Keita 6, Sohm 5.5 (Ondrejka 7), Valeri 6; Bonny 6.5 (Camara 6), Man 5 (Pellegrino 6.5). 

Best Parma player: Jacob Ondrejka 7 – An impactful performance off the substitutes’ bench for the 22-year-old. Had enough power on his finish to stick the equaliser past Sommer, albeit with the help of a deflection, and caused Inter a lot of bother down the left flank in the second half. One of several Parma substitutes who helped turn the game on its head. 

Coach: Cristian Chivu 7 – A game of two halves. Inter were largely in control in the first, although the hosts should have grabbed the opener through Bonny early on. The second half was a completely different story. The former Nerazzurri defender did not give up, his substitutions were spot on and ultimately made the tweaks that helped Parma get back into it. 

Inter: Sommer 7; Bisseck 6, Acerbi 5.5, Bastoni 7 (C.Augusto 5); Darmian 6.5, Calhanoglu 6 (Frattesi 5.5), Asllani 5 (Arnautovic 6), Mkhitaryan 6.5, Dimarco 7 (Zalewski 5); L.Martinez 6 (Correa 6), Thuram 6.5.

Best Inter player: Sommer 7 – Two outstanding first-half saves, which ultimately proved to be just as valuable as a goal. Inter would have lost that had it not been for the Switzerland international’s interventions. Not much he could do about either of Parma’s two goals either. His view was obstructed for the first when Mkhitaryan tried and failed to intervene, while the second took a double deflection on its way in. 

Coach: Simone Inzaghi 5 – It was a very similar story to the 2-1 victory against Udinese last weekend, only this time, more costly. Inter were in control across the opening 45 minutes and went in two goals up at the break, as it was last weekend, but again, the Nerazzurri struggled in the second half. Granted, Chivu made great substitutions, and Inzaghi wasn’t helped by being in the stands, nor by losing Bastoni at half-time, but the last two Serie A matches have not been encouraging in terms of second half performances.
