West Ham United’s difficult season could be about to get a whole lot more complicated as one of their star players is eyed by the Saudi Pro League for a sensational transfer bid.
The Hammers have struggled with a change in style following the departure of David Moyes in the summer, with manager Julen Lopetegui struggling to get the team going into the right direction.
A 0-0 draw with Everton last Saturday leaves the club 14th in the Premier League standings, and while they have a healthy gap to the relegation zone, this is not where they expected to be at this point in the season.
Moreover, after complaints about Moyes’ style, which saw them score 60 goals last season, they are on course to net just 45 this time around.
That will become even more difficult if Mohammed Kudus completes a move to the Saudi Pro League, which is an eventuality that is touted by Fichajes, which describes him as a “game changer”.
“The interest of Saudi football, which is increasingly solid in attracting big names, presents a tempting opportunity both financially and in terms of new challenges,” the report claims. “His signing would represent a great reinforcement for any Saudi Arabian team, which continues to seek to establish itself on the international football scene with quality players.
“The next few days could be decisive in defining the future of Mohammed Kudus and his possible landing in the Middle East.”
The Saudi Pro League has become a hot destination for veteran footballers, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the charge when he joined Al-Nassr in December 2022. Since then, star names such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Sadio Mane have followed, yet most have been in the latter stages of their careers.
Kudus to leave West Ham?
Despite Saudi’s financial strength, Kudus, who scored eight Premier League goals and created another seven last term, leaving West Ham to join the Pro League would be a major shock, not least because there are other European giants who would be interested in taking him on.
In particular, Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with an interest in the Ghana international attacker, who has an Estimated Transfer Value of €54.2 million, making him West Ham’s most valuable asset behind only Jarrod Bowen.
