Premier League legend Paolo Di Canio says he would ‘ARREST all of Man United’s directors’ over a major summer transfer call

Paolo Di Canio has sensationally claimed he would ‘arrest all the directors’ at Manchester United over a major transfer call.

In his first summer window since becoming a co-owner of United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe green-lit a £180m window as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui all arrived at Old Trafford. 

However, United’s new signings haven’t exactly hit the ground running as United sit 14th on eight points, the club’s worst start to a season after seven games.

The Red Devils also had a number of outgoings as Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka moved on and helped generate an £86m income.

It appears the change in scenery has significantly benefitted one man in particular and his impressive form has left Di Canio perplexed as to why he was allowed to leave.

However, Erik ten Hag has struggled to get the squad firing as they sit 14th in the league

‘I would go to those at Manchester United to arrest all the directors, how can you give away McTominay?’ Di Canio told Italian publication Il Mattino.

McTominay was sold by United for £26m to help fund a move for Ugarte and it proved to be helpful to the Red Devils in boosting their PSR margins given he was an academy product, so the entire fee was bookable profit.

The Scottish international bagged his first Serie A goal for Napoli in the final match before the international break in just 27 seconds against Cesc Gabregas’ Como.

McTominay received a neat pass from Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku before he nudged the ball to his right and slotted past Como goalkeeper Emil Audero with a composed right-footed finish as Napoli recorded a 3-1 win.

The 27-year-old registered his first league assist in the preceding game, which was a 2-0 victory over Serie A newcomers Monza.

McTominay was brought to Naples by Premier League-winning boss Antonio Conte, who had been out of work since he was sacked by Tottenham in March 2023.

Di Canio reserved plenty of praise for the former Chelsea boss, who has Napoli sitting first on the Serie A ladder, and is adamant they can win their second Scudetto in three years.

 ‘If Inter and Juventus continue like this, with these slowdowns, no problems,’ Di Canio said.
