An Ecuadorian international, who has played alongside Premier League star Pervis Estupinan, has been the victim of an arson attack, shocking CCTV footage has revealed. 

Midfielder Juan Cazares, 33, had his home set alight by assailants, reportedly protection racketeers, throwing Molotov cocktails.

Stunning footage of the attack from last week shows one masked thug dosing the outer wall of the property in petrol in the early hours of the morning. As he completes the task, another criminal can be seen lighting a petrol bomb and flinging it into the first floor of the home. 

A second weapon follows shortly afterwards before the petrol-soaked wall is set ablaze by two further bombs. 

A third thug can be seen recording the incident on a mobile phone before the trio make their escape, leaving a property engulfed in flames. 

The incident took place in Quininde, a small town to the north west of the capital Quito.

According to Need To Know, Cazares, who has 22 caps for Ecuador, was not at home when the attack took place and was instead in the capital with the rest of his Independiente del Valle team-mates. 

However, the outlet claim that that Cazares’ mother is the sole occupant of the house and, according to local reports, the attack may have been linked to recent attempts to extort money from the star’s family. 

Cazares has enjoyed a successful playing career in South America, and enjoying an international career that spanned seven years and took him to two Copa America in 2015 and 2016. 

The midfielder has played for the likes of River Plate, Atletico Mineiro, Corinthians, Fluminense and Santos.
