There has been plenty of managerial change in the Premier League so far this season, primarily at Nottingham Forest, but one former top-flight boss has revealed he is unlikely to ever make a return to any dugout.
The figure in question is statistically the worst-ever in Premier League history – losing all four of his matches before being sacked.
To underline the disastrous spell, his time also saw the club fail to score in any of those games.
The manager in question? Frank de Boer.
De Boer was in charge of Crystal Palace for 77 days before being sacked on September 11, 2017, having been appointed that summer.
At the time, he held shortest Premier League managerial tenure in terms of games – a record that was equalled by Sam Allardyce when he was at Leeds United for 30 days at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Ex-Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer says he doesn’t wish to return to management in future
He is the worst-ever permanent boss in Premier League history – losing all four of his matches
His last stint in management was in 2023 – when he was in charge of Emirati outfit Al Jazira
After leaving Palace, De Boer managed at Atlanta United, the Netherlands and Al Jazira – with the latter his last post two years ago.
And speaking about the possibility of ever returning, the 55-year-old said it was unlikely – stressing that he doesn’t ‘miss all that negativity’ that comes with the job.
‘Never say never, but I’m not exactly thrilled. I don’t miss all that negativity at all,’ he told Voetbal International when asked would he consider a managerial return in the future.
‘I’m a grandfather three times over, I do things for UEFA and on TV for Viaplay, I have my house in Spain. And I get to play a lot of padel.
‘I’m very happy with my life.’
De Boer’s only win as Palace manager came in the EFL Cup against Ipswich Town.
Before taking the Palace job, he was at Inter Milan but that equally ill-fated – with the Dutchman lasting just 85 days at the Italian giants before being sacked.
Prior to that he enjoyed large success at Ajax during his five-and-a-half years there which included winning four Eredivisie titles in a row between 2011-2015.
