Prince George’s sweet nickname for dad Prince William as he joins him on balcony

Prince George and Prince William were among the senior royals who appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day earlier this month

Prince George has affectionately dubbed his dad Prince William with a charming nickname, revealed amidst the VE Day celebrations. The nation recently marked an important milestone—80 years since Victory in Europe Day.

The Mall was awash with onlookers as thousands assembled in front of Buckingham Palace to honour the Royal presence and witness a spectacular aerial display.

Historic and modern military aircraft shared the sky, presenting a striking tableau that meshed history with modern prowess, including the Eurofighter Typhoon and the iconic Red Arrows.

Watching from the balcony were key members of the Royal Family, gathering in full view for the first time following Prince Harry’s poignant BBC interview. Standing tall were the heirs apparent, William and George, with Princess Kate, Princess Charlotte, and the young Prince Louis at their side.

Jeremy Freeman provided details about a touching exchange between father and son during the event while speaking to ReachPlc. He described witnessing young George tap William to get his attention before exclaiming: “Papa, what a sound.”

In turn, William was seen instructing his family warmly to “wave” to the adoring crowd below, reports Edinburgh Live.

The familial bond between Prince George and his father, Prince William, was evident during the VE Day commemorations. Earlier in the day, they attended a tea party for veterans where William spoke about George’s interest in veterans and their wellbeing, as reported by LBC.

Chatting with Hello!, Royal commentator Emily Nash noted that this visit marked a significant moment in the 11-year-old’s journey towards becoming a future monarch.

She commented: “It was a lovely surprise to see Prince George joining the King and Queen and his parents for the veterans tea party at the Palace. “It’s a big moment for him as second-in-line to the throne and one he will remember for many years to come.

“Both William and Catherine have spoken about their desire to teach their children about major moments in history, such the Holocaust, so this is another way for them to connect that wartime generation with their own next generation.”

When not on official duties, William and George enjoy quality time together in more casual settings, like Aston Villa football matches, including their team’s recent Champions League match against PSG.

Discussing their appearance at the game, William emphasised how crucial it was for him that they shared this experience.

He expressed: “You know what, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition.

“I hope it’s not 43 years until the next one happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along tonight is a big deal for me.”
